FAQs

What is the difference between a doula and a midwife?

1

A midwife is a medical professional that performs prenatal exams, monitors fetal development and delivers the baby. Doulas provide physical, emotional and informational support before, during and after baby is born. A doula can help you create a birth plan, advocate your preferences to medical staff and comfort you during labor.

What is the difference between a doula and a newborn care specialist (NCS)?

2

A doula supports the mother through out pregnancy, labor and/or postpartum. A newborn care specialist (NCS) specializes in providing care to the newborn. This includes help with feeding, diapering, bathing and establishing routines that best fit you and your family. Having a NCS gives you peace of mind that someone is there to offer additional support with your newborn.
